Shahada (Faith) - What Muslims believe
About Allah:
As a Muslim it is very important for us to know who Allah is. After all, He created us and the world around us. He is the Greatest Friend we could possibly have, and one day, we will all return to Him.
Did you know:
We do not know what Allah looks like and we are not allowed to try and draw pictures of Him.
Why is Allah our Greatest Friend?
Allah created us and knows what is best for us.
He sent us messengers and prophets to teach us how to live our lives the best way.
He has power over all things.
He listens to our prayers and our duas and he answers them.
Allah loves good Muslims and He does what is best for us. Sometimes we might not know when He is helping us, but we should know that He is always watching over us and will take care of us.
What does Allah look like?
We do not know what Allah looks like and we cannot really know as our minds are not big enough to be able to contain this knowledge.
Think about it this way...
Can you pour all the drink in this bottle into the lid next to it (all in one go and without spilling a drop)?
Answer:
All that drink cannot possibly fit into the lid because the lid is too small to contain it.
The knowledge of Allah is a bit like that. Our minds are too small to contain full knowledge of Allah.
However, Allah helps us to get to know Him by telling us what He is like. For instance He is very Kind and Forgiving.
